Wear your hat

You are welcome to wear your “Mad Hat” for the entire day; however, judging will take place during the cocktail hour and the winner announced during dinner.

Cocktail hour: Sponsored by HollisWealth (Janet Geiger)

Upon entry to the Carleton Room for dinner, you will be greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and invited to browse the silent auction table.  Servers will circulate with some delicious appetizers for your enjoyment while we finalize the results of the day.  The bar will be open for you to purchase an alternate beverage if you desire.

Silent Auction

We have amazing items up for auction this year, such as a round of golf for 2 at one of the top 100 courses in the world: Cabot Links!

If a trip to the east coast doesn’t interest you, how about a beautiful black leather purse and matching wallet with leopard skin accents? In need of some TLC? Massages, chiropractic treatments and more are available for you. Remember, all proceeds raised will be donated to Hospice Care Ottawa!

While enjoying your dinner with wine provided by our sponsor, Charton Hobbs, the winners of skill prizes, top foursome, Best Hat and items on the Care Board will be announced. Bidding will close on the silent auction by the end of the main course!

Our day will wrap up with the distribution of items from the silent auction to the successful bidders. Hospice Care Ottawa representatives will be in attendance during registration/lunch and cocktail hour/dinner to accept payment for squares on the Care Board or bids placed on silent auction items. They will also be able to take private donations, if you prefer. You will be able to use cash, debit or credit card.

Member-Guest 2015 Wrap-up Report:

The day we golfed the world!

By Laurel Onfrichuk

Friday, July 17th was the day we asked you to pack your bags and join us on a golf trip around the world. Where has the time gone!

The event was a great success with 117 participants who answered trivia questions based on golf destinations, took turns completing a skill challenge for a team prize and enjoyed a tasty treat from our sponsors! The ladies who decorated themselves and their carts were much appreciated and provided some extra entertainment for all.

As always, these events would not have been possible without the generous donation of gifts and services from our sponsors, members, CGYC staff and organizing committee.

Chef Peter prepared a delicious menu for the day and our lunch was sponsored by Janet Geiger of Hollis Wealth. The wine we enjoyed with dinner was provided by Charton Hobbs and was a lovely addition!

Deb Bourchier of GGFL Chartered Accountants was our cart sponsor, which made for a relaxing afternoon to enjoy samples provided by McAuslin Brewing and Steam Whistle. Cada Construction sponsored a hole and a sweet treat, providing a taste of Italy with gelato made by Be Good Gelato.

Barrhaven Optometric Centre and Maui Jim brought a Hawaiian flare by sponsoring Closest to the Pin on #10 and donating a pair of sunglasses to the lucky winner. Sophia Esthetics, LaPorto a Casa and CAANEO were also hole sponsors and provided lovely gifts for our prize table.

Plus, our members were very generous with their donations which greatly added to the overall success of this event.

Get ready for 2016!
If you didn't join us this time, we missed you!  Make sure you come and join in the fun in 2016.

Thank you to our 2015 flagship sponsors:

2014 Wrap-up Report

By Lisa Gordon

You know how they say ?what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas?? Well, that doesn't apply to the "Vegas, Baby!" Ladies' Member-Guest event that took place on Friday, July 18th. The newly revised saying goes like this: If it happened in ?Vegas? (i.e., at CGYC?s Vegas, Baby! event), and I SAW it, well... I?m telling EVERYBODY!

For the 116 of you who attended, you KNOW what a great time it was. And for those of you who passed on it this year, you totally missed out!

The sun shone brightly, the beverages flowed effortlessly, games of skill and chance were played?we even managed to get in a round of golf among all of the Vegas-themed festivities.

Food and beverages were plentiful: lunch and dinner catered by our very own Chef Peter, plus tasty gazpacho and pork belly taco treats dished out by our friends at Juniper Kitchen and Wine Bar. And it wouldn?t have been a party without the refreshing libations from Labatt?s and Steam Whistle, not to mention the free-flowing cosmopolitan martinis and Jello shooter stations!

When we weren't eating or drinking, we raced down the Vegas Strip (some of us faster than others!), tried to ace hole #6 for a $5,000 payout (which sadly didn't happen for anyone), rolled the fuzzy dice (no one actually manage to HIT them very far off the tee) and challenged our former Junior Boys' Club Champion on the 10th (hard to believe he could turn his driver into a 9 iron!).

A few of us even molested the cardboard cutout of The King (aka Joe "The Bookie" Mader) that was positioned in the middle of the 14th fairway (and I believe photographic evidence of this debauchery is floating around on the Internet now, much to Joe's dismay!)

We played blackjack and poker, and spun the wheel of fortune (or misfortune!) in the hopes of getting a 3-wood (rather than a sand wedge) to use for the entire 4th hole.

We even got the chance to check out the latest and greatest golf accessories like the Turn Tee, and had sunglass fittings courtesy of Barrhaven Optometric and Maui Jim.

The scores at the end of the day were all over the map, with the low round coming in at 63 (and most honest golfers at 112), but that didn't matter since the big winners of the tournament were all drawn randomly from the top, middle and bottom third scores. So going low (or high!) got you bragging rights only!

All in all, a great day was had by all and we're now counting down the days to next year's LMG event, which aspires to be bigger and better!

And a special thanks to all of our sponsors:

  • GGFL Chartered Accountants
  • Mandeville Private Client/Adam Capital
  • Barrhaven Optometric Centre
  • Cada Construction
  • Restoration Rite
  • HollisWealth/Life Span Financial Strategies

We certainly couldn't have put on such a great show without all of their support! (Click here for our complete list of sponsors and donors.)

Thank you! See you next year!
