Everyone is encouraged to play in mixed events. If you don’t have a golfing partner of the opposite sex handy, let the Mixed Events Committee know – they’ll do their best to find a playing partner for you.
A mixed 2 person event played on Thursday afternoons and evenings over the entire season. It is played on the front 9 holes only. Prizes are awarded each week for special competitive events and a wind-up dinner is held at the end of the season to award prizes to the winning teams. Thursday evening socials are encouraged and golf tips are sometimes given by staff from the pro-shop.
“Captain and Crew” – Victoria Day Shotgun
4 person teams (usually an A, B, C & D) with roughly balanced handicap totals battle it out in a Texas Scramble. The Mixed Events committee (with help from the Pro) puts the teams together, so you know who to approach to get on a ‘stacked’ side (and to get a good starting tee – this is a shotgun). A great way to meet members you haven’t played with yet. Dinner and awards follow the round.
Canada Day Shotgun
2 person mixed teams compete in a “better ball” tournament while wearing extremely red and white golf attire. A day to wave the flag. Dinner and awards follow the round. Note: This tournament doubles as the seeding round for Mixed Match Play (all interested parties to sign up on Canada Day – there is no maximum number of participants).
Battle of the Sexes
The merciless event that dares to ask the big questions. And if recent history is anything to go by, the answer is, “Yes, usually girls are better than boys, but sometimes boys are better than girls.” By tradition, the reigning champions must be challenged by the current “weaker” sex – refusal to accept the challenge results in a forfeit (unless a really good excuse is involved). A very edgy, out-there event.
Paul Going Memorial Trophy
A mixed net score event with a dinner and awards following the round
Mixed Match Play
Guaranteed to test a golfing relationship! Mixed 2-person teams play better-ball matches (i.e. everyone plays their own ball, with the better score (after handicap) counting for the team).
